As a member of the Minden Monarchs, Jacob Scheckloth of Minden, Iowa made the Carstens Farm mailbox his 4-H project this summer. He adopted Uncle Sam and gave him a face lift.
The lumber which was used for Uncle Sam came from the lumber cut at the sawmill during the 2009 Farm Days Show. After tracing and cutting a pattern on the wood, Jacob spent three hours sanding the wood to get it ready.
After using a variety of tools, including a planer, reciprocating saw, circular saw, belt sander and a drill, Jacob painted Uncle Sam with recycled paint and gave him some character.

After a total of approximately 15 hours on this project, Uncle Sam was ready to be put in his place of honor at Carsens Farm.
A big thank you to Jacob for all of his hard work. His craftsmanship and his big heart are a great gift to the Farm.
So the next time you walk by Uncle Sam at Carstens Farm, be sure to check him out and thank Jacob!
Thanks to Tom Scheckloth for all of the pictures!
