30 Years of Threshing

Larry and Dianne Ehlers shared the attached article with us that appeared in The Neola Gazette-Reporter and Minden-Shelby News on Thursday, August 16, 1979.

Threshing Article, August 16, 1979

An annual threshing demonstration was held on the Wayne Siebels farm for three years.  The threshing activities were moved to Carstens Farm in 1982, where they continue to flourish today at the Farm Days Show held each year in September on the weekend after Labor Day.

Wayne Siebels, Larry Ehlers and Brad Ferris have been active members of Carstens Farm for many years.  Thirty years later, they not only are still instrumental in demonstrating and explaining how the operation worked to guests at Carstens Farm Days, but they devote a great deal of time explaining it all to kids during Kids’ Day at Carstens Farm.

Many thanks to Wayne, Larry and Brad for their continued presence at the Farm.  These men, and those that help with the threshing, put in a lot of time and effort in the threshing and all that leads up to the threshing.   Thanks to these men for their gift of sharing their knowledge to educate the guests at the Farm and for their senses of humor in helping us greenhorns learn about the past.
